A Peek Inside My Little Studio + Nursery

A lot has changed in this space since I last did a little studio tour, the most profound being our new baby has arrived! Before Ramona was born, we moved things around the studio so that we could make it work to have her nursery in there too. Not only did we move things around but Jacob (my husband!) designed and created a whole modular desk and shelving unit to fit the space and my needs for certain art supplies along with books and toy boxes for the baby. It is AWESOME and I love how it fills the space with storage, but still feels open and airy!

I’m excited to give you a little tour, we love how it turned out, but I have to say, it really is not the most practical setup. I’m sure any parent could have told us this, but when the baby is napping in her crib, I can’t really work in the same room as her in order for her to fall asleep (facepalm!!) But right now, we don’t have an extra room to really be able to separate things so we’re just working with what we got and I do have weekends and anytime my husband can take care of her while I work, so I’m very grateful for that!

Now, onto the main event!!

I still have my wall of shallow shelves made up of 2 x 4’s and L brackets and I still love it! I’m hooked on having all my supplies where I can see them, everything is super accessible. Ramona also loves to look at everything before she goes down for a nap, I love explaining everything to her, she’s a great audience haha! I’m guessing there will be a point in time where it may not be so easy for her to just look without trying to get into it all… but, we’ll cross that bridge when it comes!

You may have guessed that I’ve always loved children’s books, but now it’s on a whole new level!! I’m excited to continue to grow my children’s book collection.

This has been one of my favorites for a long time. If you’re looking for beautiful illustrations and a whimsical picture book, this is it! If… by Sarah Perry : )

The art above the crib is an old Letterman painting that Jacob found faced down on the side of the road in Los Angeles years ago. It’s been fun to see Ramona staring at it when she wakes up!

Over on the right is her changing table, but it’s not only a boring ol’ changing table … when you remove the pad on the top, it’s actually my light table! I’m so glad we were able to work my light table into this space, I use it surprisingly often. (Full handyman credit goes to Jacob on that one, too!)

We also purchased this small dresser with shallow drawers that we are using for her clothes right now. But at some point, we will need to get a little bigger dresser and then I will use these as flat files for all my paper and illustration stuff! How cute are all those tiny little hats and socks right now though??

Aaand this is pretty much what it looks like when I’m trying to get things done, except of course there are usually baby clothes piles everywhere : D Thanks so much for coming to visit me here, I hope you enjoyed checking out my (I guess I should say OUR) little space!

Wishing you a wonderful day!

Keep on creating!
